Unsaturated and saturated releative permeability

Hello,

I’ve been studying the “flyback_converter_with_magnetics” demo model in PLECS, and I have a question regarding the magnetic core parameters used in the saturable inductor model.

Specifically, I noticed that the unsaturated relative permeability is set to 9550**, while the saturated relative permeability is set to 1. According to the Ferroxcube datasheet for the 3C91 material, the initial permeability μᵢ is listed as 3000 (measured at 0.25 mT), so I’m trying to understand the reasoning behind using 9550 as the unsaturated value.

  1. What is the source or method used to determine the unsaturated relative permeability of 9550 in this model?
  2. Why is the saturated permeability set to 1? Is this a default approximation in PLECS to simulate full magnetic saturation, or is it based on specific physical measurements of the core material?

Please see my answer on the other related thread you commented on:

For the saturated permeability, yes 1 is the default approximation to simulate full magnetic saturation.
