Question Regarding the FS450R17OE4 Thermal Model

Dear PLECS Support Team

I would like to use the thermal model of the FS450R17OE4 module in my PLECS simulation.

My question concerns the datasheet characteristics. Since the FS450R17OE4 contains six IGBT switches, do the graphs (such as the switching loss and transient thermal impedance characteristics) correspond to a single IGBT switch (one of the six), or do they represent the complete module?

In addition, does the Grenzlastintegral and the thermal model implemented in PLECS refer to a single IGBT switch or to the complete FS450R17OE4 module?

Thank you in advance for your clarification.

Kind regards

Hello Milan,

For guidance on a specific vendor device it would be best to contact the vendor themselves so they can guide you with their recommendations for their specific products given their overall modeling approach. Infineon has a public forum which could be a good fit for this purpose if you do not have a direct contact. I believe this section on Forum / Power / IGBTs is the most appropriate place for your query.

With that said:

do the graphs (such as the switching loss and transient thermal impedance characteristics) correspond to a single IGBT switch (one of the six), or do they represent the complete module?

The models correspond to a single IGBT switch. The model currently consists of tow *.xml files, one which is associated with a single IGBT device in PLECS and the other with a single Diode. You must add both an IGBT and separate Diode component for every switch position in the six-pack.

does the Grenzlastintegral and the thermal model implemented in PLECS refer to a single IGBT switch or to the complete FS450R17OE4 module?

PLECS doesn’t directly use a I2t value like the datasheet provides. Rather the temperature is calculated based on a dynamic model of the thermal impedance chain. However, to your general question yes the provided model is just for one device (and not the complete module).
