T-Type Converter

Hi Plecs Team,

I am designing controller for T-Type converter. Can you please help me with demo model or any kind of reference to simulate the converter. In the demo example I found T-Type inverter, so is it possible to modify the controller to make it work like three phase AC/DC converter.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank You

The “Three-Phase T-Type Inverter” is likely the most relevant demo model, which already works bidirectionally - simply change the iMag and Phi variables in the model initialization commands to set set the power direction and phase angle.

Hello, if you succeed, could you share?

Hi, I tried adjusting the iMag values from -1 to 1 and set Phi to 0, but it didn’t work as expected—perhaps I missed something. Instead, I modified the controller following the demo example from the NPC Converter, and that worked.

Thank You

Glad you found a solution that worked for you!

Hi PLECS Team,

I used the C3M0040120K switch for 1200V and the C3M0015065K switch for 650V in my design. When simulating the switching and conduction losses for the SiC MOSFETs, I observed very low conduction losses for the C3M0015065K and no switching losses at all. I’m uncertain whether these results are accurate or if I might have overlooked something. Could you please review and let me know if the simulated loss values are valid? I’ve attached my converter simulation model for reference.

Thank You

Kunal, it’s not part of the Plexim engineering support to validate user models.

I will say the T-Type PFC operating as an inverter has little to no switching losses in the neutral leg (e.g. see Fig 45. in this TI App note). I’ll also note the losses aren’t exactly zero, but are limited by the precision in your display blocks (however they quite low). For the conduction losses, perhaps you can do a back-of-the-envelop calculation given the device current and loss characteristics in the datasheet to improve your confidence in the model.
